Prefcard Templates
PREFcard templates introduce a new way to manage surgeon preferences, PACU/Preop preferences, and more!
When PREFcards use a PREFcard template, everything that shows up in the template will also show up in all the associated PREFcards, including items, quantities, notes, images, and CPT & ICD-10 codes.
Just like PREFcards, templates can viewed, printed, edited, copied, shared, and more.
Templates are listed in the main menu under . By default, all PREFcards and templates are shown on the page. To see just one, use the tab bar above the table to select 'PREFcards' or 'Templates'.
Creating a PREFcard template is the same as creating a PREFcard. Go to and click 'Actions' > 'New Template'. After you specify a name and an optional surgeon, the template is created and ready to edit.
Templates don't need to be associated with a surgeon. This allows you to have facility-wide templates for PACU, Preop, and others.
The page for editing PREFcards has been split into multiple tabs.
Details contains the PREFcard name, surgeon, and CPT / ICD-10 codes.
Templates contains the list of templates applied to this PREFcard.
Items contains the list of items with open/hold quantities.
Notes contains the notes and important notes. A PREFcard can now have multiple important notes at the top, including important notes from templates.
Editing a PREFcard template is the same as editing a PREFcard, except with 2 new fields called automations.
Auto-Add to New Cases. When this is checked, then this template will be automatically added to every case as it gets created. If the template is for a surgeon, then it will only be added to cases where the surgeon matches. This is a great option if you have a facility-wide template for Preop or PACU that should be on every case.
Auto-Add to New Cards. When this is checked, then this template will be automatically added to every PREFcard as it gets created. If the template is for a surgeon, then it will only be added to cards where the surgeon matches. This is a great option if you want to make sure every PREFcard for a surgeon has things like gloves, gown, and music.
Once your template has items, notes, or details, you're ready to add the template to a PREFcard.
To add a template to a PREFcard, edit the PREFcard (not the template), and go to the 'Templates' tab. At the bottom, click 'Add Template'. Here you can search for the template you've created. Clicking the '+' icon will add the template to the PREFcard.
Before you save changes, remember to update the items, notes, and details to reflect the new template. For example, if the PREFcard specifies gloves, and the template also specifies gloves, then you'll now have a duplicate set of gloves that will be overpicked.
Deleting a template is very different from deleting a PREFcard. To delete a template, you will be given 3 options.
Delete will delete the template by removing it from all PREFcards and cases, and then forcibly deleting all of its contents and history.
Replace will replace the template with another template on every PREFcard and case. Then, once there are no more references to the old template, its contents and history will be deleted.
Flatten will take the contents of the template and push them into every PREFcard that uses the template. So, if the template has gloves, the gloves will be moved to every PREFcard that uses the template, and then the template will be deleted.
Cases can now have multiple PREFcards and templates associated with them.
Sometimes, surgeons will perform multiple procedures in a single case. Instead of creating a new PREFcard that contains the merged preferences from both procedures, simply add a second (or third, fourth, etc) PREFcard to multi-faceted case.
